Shirt Project

Our current project is entitled 'The Perfect Shirt' and our lecturer is a wonderful Japanese designer called Kenichi Nakayama. The first part to the project asked us to feel a square of white cotton and, using our senses, write down as many words as we could in just 5 minutes. These were to be wittled down to just 5 and mood boards made of all of them. I ended up choosing just 4 as i couldn't pick a 5th that i felt went with the others. These were my words -

Spring

Comfort

Youth

Purity

I have already made a 1st toile and nearly finished my second but i have no pictures so i'll upload them when i can as well as some sketches.

Apologies if anyone's pictures are in the above mood boards, i found them all on weheartit.com or google images! They are all beautiful but if you wish me to black them out i can do so!

Hello

I don't think there are actually any pictures of me on here so here you are. I started this blog just over a year ago and rarely actually posted on it. Well i am going to turn that around, this is me, you can call me Lulabelle. I study fashion design at university, i'm a first year and it's the best thing i have done in my life so far. I will be posting regularly on here about my life in fashion as well inspiration and reviews. I love a good chat also so feel free to comment!

LOVE & WONDERLAND

So i got quite a bit of money on Friday (i won't disclose how much, but it was a nice amount) and i went in to town that same day to get some essentials for my trip to Berlin tomorrow. I decided to have a look at the magazines in W H Smiths and came across 'LOVE' (£6.00) and also 'Wonderland' (£5.00) which i'd never seen before but both said fashion on the covers and i felt i needed them.

Though the price sounds scandalous for a magazine it is anything but because LOVE is packed with articles and images in a nice hefty 380 or so pages. Albeit a lot of it is advertisement but then what more could you expect from a fashion magazine? I personally enjoy fashion adverts as i like the photography! Anyway, this months one, which has been circling the internet is 'The Androgyny Issue' with a nice big picture of Kate Moss looking incredibly masculine with her hair slicked back and a sense of laid back coolness in her expression. Printed right over her chest is 'This is hardcore', a bit tacky for my tastes but suits the general theme of the issue, so i'll let them off. There is a lot of focus on Lea T this issue including a shoot with her and Kate getting a little (A LOT) bit close. Then also Patrick Demarchilier one of my favourite photographers, who i actually saw on ANTM the other week and he has a wonderful down to earth personality (going by the clips on a tv programme that is). I have so far flicked through the magazine and read the editors letter but later i aim to read the articles, it may have to be after i come back from germany however as it's far to heavy to take on the plane. But i can't wait to get stuck in as the very titles look interesting.

I have yet to really look through WONDERLAND as i haven't had a spare moment but it is titled 'The Spring Fashion Issue' so i expect a lot of reviews of the SS shows. What drew me to the magazine was definitely Jessica Stam on the front cover and i adore her, she really is everything a model should be in my eyes! And it was nice to see a cover shot of her again. This magazine as well as LOVE is really big and also has a second mini book with it that on Loreal and Central Saint Martins (I applied to their sister uni this year - London college of fashion!) which i had a flick through and the concepts are amazing and the finished looks show the high standard that is expected of that university.

When i get back from Berlin i will have a proper read and give you my reviews!

Culture Project

The images below are by me, featuring my fashion work based around African Culture. The yellow patterned fabric is from Tanzania and the trousers and rest of the top are made of crepe du chine. The jacket is leatherette, faux fur and faux feathers. I wanted to get my theme across in the outfit but also to take elements of African tribes and modernize them to create a chic, original outfit. Rachel Dapre models.

Tom Ford Eyewear with Freja Beha Erichsen and Nicholas Hoult. I love this campaign especially the harsh studio lighting, just amazing.

If i only i were rich and i'd live a fairytale life.

A bit away from my previous fashion and photography posts, but this was something that i had to show. Now i know the 1st image circulated the web back in 2008 when it was first shown, but i've only just found it so i'm digging it up and showing it again.

"Tree Bed" By Shawn Lovell Metalworks. From what i've seen it's about $15,000 for that one bed! However it is hand made and you can see the level of craftsmanship and love that goes into it, it really is a stunner that anyone would be lucky to have in their room.

"Under the apple tree" A bed by Atilla designs still selling on Etsy for $10,600. Once again an expensive but hand crafted piece.

If i were rich i think i would definitely purchase either of those beds, but it would be a hard decision as they are both perfect and takes me back to when i was a little girl dreaming of fairytales and princesses. For now i will dream and maybe one day one of those beds will sit center in my room and i will fall asleep every night under a tree canopy.
